Barbershop revisited

One of the most over-looked public spaces could be the barbershops of old. But, as beards come and go out of fashion, modern day designers have shed a new light at the barbershop design and interiors.

Recently I was intrigued by a very inspirational press release from Spanish lights producing company Vibia.

Their release celebrated one of their lighting designs “Wireflow” in a new setting – a barbershop. Check them out:

My modern tidy home – note #2

Following on the previous post for “My modern tidy home” here is how the Japanese architecture studio takao shiotsuka atelier handled the tricky job of providing enough storage space whilst maintaining cluster-free rooms.

They used the staircase area for incorporating storage – this looks clean and appealing.

See other photos of their lovely Cloudy house at designboom.

Beautiful Belgian chocolate

You must have heard of the Belgian chocolates – now you see that all good things must come in good packages. This is especially the case with the Belgian artisan chocolatier Dumon, who commissioned Dutch Bob Bulcaen of the Witblad studio to make the interior of their Kortrijk shop. The project evolves around black&white tiled floor (so typical) and the multi-faceted chocolate counter. The multifaceted pendant lights (Rock by Foscarini for Diesel) accentuate the theme of diamond-cut chocolates (as can be seen below).

How do you create an interior for a special kind of school system which has a unique educational model, called Vittra international school? with the key-words being Networks, Skills and Language it is not easy to envisage the environment suitable to nurturing the personal qualities in each child – an environment without classrooms, divisions and walls.

Danish designer Rosan Bosch has made a marvelous contribution to Vittra`s educational approach. Without any possibility for citations and copy-pasting, with only the wast experience of Vittra`s own educational staff, designer Rosan Bosch created a multitude of creative spaces for children with different needs, behaviour and talents.

Some spaces are deep red caverns – for the theatrical among children, other spaces include a picknick-like table under an artificial tree (for the nature-minded). There are wast expanses of blackboard for the children to scribble on and many cozy nooks and crannies for the children to find their own space.

Below you can find all the available pictures – and each tells a story!

Humans shouldn`t have all the fun (?)

Making things complicated is easy. Achieving simplicity is tough.” –Bruno Munari

with this quote the team behind  Aruliden (a brand strategy and product design consultancy formed by Rinat Aruh and Johan Liden) claims that the objects they create are transforming every-day objects into new icons.

Just ask the fish how they feel about it…
